''Each Time I Keeps Something Blank'' Says Sameer Thahir

The Hot And Cinematographer Turned Director Malayalam Cinema Speaks.

The time nothingness where I do nothing but stare at the wall and to consider the way forward. It was from the blanks in my creativity where  i acquired my heights where i think something new, something different "says the media shy Sameer. It resulted him reaching to cinematography from wedding photography and thereafter as much aapreciated director.
"It was by chance that I came to camera. By the time I was 16,partnering my friend samjad in wedding photography. This was the first time i kept blank.Since then I was studying in Maharaja's college for a degree in history. There i had the interaction with my seniors and movie buffs like cinematographer Rajeev Ravi and director Anwar Rasheed and Amal, to name a few, some of whom had gone to the Institute of Cinema and Television of India, Pune, I started watching the movie and learn about the wonderful world of cinema. I was in my third year of college, when I realized that I could take my interest in cinema to make over my photography to another level, "says Sameer.
Sameer's  first work in the field was assisting movie quote Rajeev Ravi for the film 'quotation' directed by vinod vijayan.came to help .Then with his mentor Amal neerad who at that time was a cameraman for Ranjith directed  film 'Black'.With Amal, later he challenged bollywood assisting him for Ram Gopal Varma's films after it helped him finding a certain job  " I owe him everything about the camera and he is my guru'says sameer on Amal repeatedly.
"I've never been professionally trained in cinematography and it is because i was not in a position to get up and go to film school. It was from the practical experience i learned cinematography and direction.
Sameer has worked so far in only four films since making his debut in 2007, "I just picks script that can have a sense of creativity'' says Sameer.
Got to the point where I got bored of shooting ads - another record. I began to think seriously about the direction of the movie - something that I thought was beyond the dreams of my brother's. I started writing a script and it was Anwar Rasheed who encouraged me to take the next step and put me in touch with Stephen Stephen, its maker. So Chappa ... the birth. It Was really meant to be a great film, and she gets caught me off guard, "he he.
I love every aspect of filmmaking, but the cinematography is my interest, my first love. I have this unreasonable fear that people will not call me for cinematography if I focus on the direction! "He adds with a laugh.
